Leitch Technology Corporation (TSX:LTV), a leading supplier of HD video systems for professional television, today announced it continues to gain significant momentum within the mobile production market, as demonstrated by a surge in installations of the company’s multi-format solutions in mobile units worldwide. From processing and distribution to post production and control, Leitch solutions are providing support on the newest HD mobile units and at high-profile sports and entertainment events around the world.
Leitch’s latest products are installed on some of the most recent HD production trucks to hit the road, including San Antonio-based Shook Mobile Technology’s HD mobile unit, which was unveiled at the 2005 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention in April with Leitch’s new X75™HD Multiple Path Converter/Synchronizers onboard. Both the A-15 HD EFP Production Vehicle and the X75HD were honored during the show for technical excellence, with Shook’s truck receiving a TV Technology STAR Award and Leitch’s X75HD earning an NAB Award for Innovation in Media (AIM), a Broadcast Engineering Pick Hit Award and a STAR Award.
Mobile TV Group, a leading operator of mobile television production trailers in Denver, Colorado, also purchased 18 X75HDs to outfit their newest HD truck, the 10HDX, which will cover a variety of live events throughout Southern California after its scheduled launch this summer.
During recent high-profile events, the X75HD provided support for New York-based All Mobile Video’s (AMV) high-definition coverage of the 47th Annual GRAMMY Awards and was onboard NEP Supershooters all-HD truck, which was used to broadcast the FOX Network’s coverage of Super Bowl XXXIX in 720p high-definition format.
Leitch was also chosen as a major supplier to outfit Portland, Oregon-based MIRA Mobile Television’s recently launched 53-foot HD mobile unit, M-5, which is being used to provide coverage of the Seattle Sonics home and visiting team telecasts, as well as Seattle Mariners home telecasts for Fox Sports Net Northwest. Leitch supplied a wide range of SD and HD equipment for the truck including Integrator® Gold wideband routers, HDTV upconverters, HDTV test generator modules and CCS-Pilot™ control and monitoring software.
“When we began planning this ambitious project, we were looking for robust, state-of-the-art equipment and reliable partners to ensure the truck would surpass our clients’ expectations,” said Frank Taylor, general manager of MIRA Mobile Television. “Having worked with Leitch on two of our previous mobile units, we were confident in the company’s ability to support our efforts. Our strong past relationship, along with the company’s recently enhanced HD product offering, made it an easy decision to work with Leitch on this important project.”
Around the world, Leitch was chosen to equip one of the first high-definition OB trucks in the United Kingdom, when leading European outside broadcasting company Telegenic purchased Leitch’s VelocityHD™ HD/SD non-linear editing system for its T8 mobile production facility. Leitch was also chosen by NBN Television to supply equipment when the broadcaster launched Australia’s first SD/HD outside broadcast unit. Leitch also provided its multi-format Integrator routing switchers to Digital Vision, a Norwegian outside broadcasting company that covers alpine sporting events across Scandinavia.
“The move toward HD within the mobile production industry has picked up tremendous speed in the last year, and Leitch has enjoyed significant success in this critical segment of the market,” said Tim Thorsteinson, president and CEO of Leitch Technology. “In order to remain viable now and down the road, mobile production companies must ensure format flexibility in their new trucks, and our commitment to developing multi-format equipment that is also compact, scalable and rugged has allowed us to gain considerable market share in this arena.”
